Domestic roller shutters are at the forefront of home privacy and security. They’re an efficient and elegant solution to many of the problems that roller blinds, Venetian blinds, and curtains cannot solve. With these installed, you get a completely sealed, opaque barrier that fits flush with your window frame, allowing no light to pass through, keeping your home interiors shielded from the harsh sun and prying eyes.
The only limitation of using multiple roller shutters is that they’re inconvenient to operate manually. Having to frequently go around your house to operate each shutter manually can get cumbersome. We have the perfect solution for this!
Presenting A-OK Shutter Motors — a range of 35 mm, 45 mm, and 60 mm tubular motors that allow you to motorise and automate your domestic roller shutters. Now you can operate one or more shutters in your home at the push of a button!
Benefits of Installing Roller Shutter Motors
Motorised shutters can be an excellent addition to your home’s ecosystem of automated devices. They’ll integrate nicely alongside your automated curtains, blinds, and windows.
Installing automated shutters comes with a long list of benefits, a few of our favourite ones include:
Privacy at the Push of a Button
You read that right, all you need to do is push a button and you can enjoy complete privacy. Our radio-controlled tubular motors can be easily operated with a remote — this feature is available in all three motor sizes.
Scheduled Operation for Thermal Efficiency
Blackout blinds or roller shutters are a great way to keep your house cool in the summers and warm in the winters. With the right automation systems installed, you’ll be able to schedule when you want your shutters to open or close. This helps to keep the electricity costs down.
Easy to Install and Use
Our tubular motors can be retrofitted to most pre-installed roller shutters without the need for specialised tools or complex procedures. This comes in handy especially if you’re renting, as you can easily uninstall the mechanism and take it with you when needed.
Extra Security
Roller shutters add an extra degree of security to your house — ideal if you travel a lot and leave your home unattended often.
A-OK’s AM35 series of tubular motors is perfect for automating small and mid-sized blackout blinds or external shutters. They’re easy to install, require no construction, and are loaded with features like radio control, solar power, and mechanical limit switch.

How To Install a Roller Shutter Motor
Installing a motorised roller shutter in your home is easy. In fact, it’s so easy that you can do it yourself with just a few tools and be done in a couple minutes. Just grab a tape measure, a screwdriver, a drill and a stud finder and follow our roller shutter installation guide.
Step 1: Measuring
Measure twice, cut once the saying goes, and even though we won’t be doing any cutting, it still holds true for installing your motor. Before you make a purchase you’ll want to make sure your motor is strong enough to move your shutter, and that it fits in its diameter. We stock 35, 45 and 60 mm motors, which should fit most standard shutters.
If you’re unsure how powerful a motor you need, reach out and our team of experts will help you figure out what kind of product will fit your needs.
Step 2: Mount the Brackets
Once you have your motor, it’s time to get to work. The next thing you’ll do is mount the wall brackets that will hold up said motor. Although it sounds complicated, it’s actually quite easy. Simply drill a hole at the height you want your shutter to be at and screw the mount in place. Use a stud finder if your home’s construction requires it.
Step 3: Install the Motor and Hang
As redundant as it sounds, this step is where you’ll insert the motor into your shutters. If you measured correctly in step 1, it should be as simple as sliding it in and locking it in place. The locking mechanism will vary depending on what model you’re using, but the included instructions will clear things up.
Once that’s done, it’s time to hang it up. It’s as simple as pushing your shutter against the wall mount until it locks in place.
Step 4: Adjustments
You’re not done yet, but you’re almost there. All that’s left is to adjust your roller shutter motor so that it operates correctly. Calibrating is quite simple, especially if you’re connecting your shutters to our automation systems. Just make sure the endpoints are set with 2 to 3 cm spacing.
